AWARD: Euclid Creek Tunnel wins International Project of the Year award
We hope Mackenzie's getting her acceptance speech ready.
Our Euclid Creek Tunnel project has earned the Tunnelling Association of Canada's 2013 International Project of the Year Award, and we're honored, says Kellie Rotunno.
“We're very proud of this," said Rotunno, Sewer District Director of Engineering and Construction. "It's our first, single-pass, segmentally lined tunnel, and it is nice to have it recognized as an International success like this."
Rotunno attributed much of the project's success to valuable lessons from previous tunnel projects, as well as the great team working on this job. "A great big thanks goes out to our designers, contractors, construction managers, and District staff," she said. "They all contributed to the success."
The ECT's most recent milestone came this summer when tunnel boring machine Mackenzie completed her three-mile dig on-line, ahead of schedule, and under budget. The project is scheduled for completion in 2015, one of seven tunnels included in our 25-year $3 billion Project Clean Lake initiative to reduce pollution in Lake Erie.
