Due to localized fire damage on the 4th floor of the George J. McMonagle Administration Building around 1:00 last night, the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District's administration building will be closed today, May 18, 2015.
No injuries were sustained. We are in the process of assessing damage and are ventilating the building throughout the day.
All other facilities will remain open and essential staff are required to report to work. Please contact your supervisor if you have any questions regarding your requirements.
If you have functions or meetings scheduled for the GJM Building Monday, May 18, please check with your meeting coordinator to reschedule or confirm other arrangements.
We are expected to be open as usual tomorrow, May 19, 2015. We will keep you posted as new information becomes available.

NOTICE: Swimming advisory for #Edgewater Beach has been lifted
Saturday morning testing predicts ”Good” water quality rating
With today’s temperature readings expected to reach the high 80s, many Clevelanders are eager to get back to the beach. Our crews are predicting “Good” water quality at Edgewater Beach for Saturday, June 28, and have lifted the swimming advisory posted last week.
Sewer District crews are responsible for testing water quality at three area beaches—Edgewater Beach, Villa Angela Beach and Euclid Beach—using a rapid testing method to quickly predict whether bacteria levels in the lake are within safe limits for swimming and other shoreline activities. Due to a combined sewer overflow at Edgewater Beach (the first overflow in three years), the Sewer District posted a swimming advisory. Beach visitors—particularly children, the elderly and those in ill health—were advised to avoid contact with the water and any floating debris.

WORK: Made to odor? Smell may annoy, but it's safe.
Next week, we're planning a sewer relining project in the area of E. 123rd Street. During the project, you may notice a "plasticky" smell, but be assured it's safe. Annoying perhaps, but safe.
We mailed a letter to residents in the East 123rd neighborhood between Parkway Road and Fairport Avenue this week to inform them of the work scheduled for the week of February 25, weather permitting.
The sewer-improvement project includes "cured-in-place" pipe, which contains styrene resin and is known to cause odors. The contractor will be venting the sewer line to minimize the smell, but it still may be detected by the human nose. As the letter explained, the level of odor is significantly lower than the allowable exposure limits deemed safe. You can download a copy of the letter and FAQ attachment.

NOTICE: Lakeshore Blvd. sewer project preparations underway
As part of the Euclid Creek Tunnel project, the Sewer District will be constructing the Lakeshore Boulevard
Consolidation Sewer along Lakeshore Boulevard from the Easterly
treatment plant to East 150th Street.
The Lakeshore Boulevard Consolidation Sewer project will include the installation of monitors at the foundations of various residences along the project route. These monitors will be small 3-inch by 4-inch plastic markers to determine if there is settlement of any surrounding buildings along Lakeshore Boulevard. This is just a precautionary measure as the Sewer District does not anticipate any major settlement, and these monitors are used solely to confirm our expectations.
This sewer will be micro-tunneled, which means it will be constructed underground to minimize surface disruptions, but there will be several above ground structures such as manholes and access shafts.
Project Clean Lake is a 25-year program to reduce pollution in Lake Erie and the Cuyahoga River.

NOTICE: 24-hour construction in Garfield Heights to repair culvert, reduce pollution
Beginning the week of February 27 through the first week of April, Sewer District contractor Nerone & Sons, Inc. will work around the clock on a construction project at Wolf Creek near the intersection of Henry Street and Southern Avenue. The work will help reduce pollution by capturing more flow in the Mill Creek Tunnel system during heavy rainstorms.
Due to the nature of this work—preventing damage to existing structures and the creek banks—Nerone & Sons is required to work 24 hours a day, seven days a week to complete this phase of the project. This may result in some noise disturbances, and overhead lights will be used after dark to enhance visibility.
The Sewer District will take every precaution to minimize the impact to residents and businesses. If you have any questions, call our Customer Service department at (216) 881-8247 and reference Mill Creek Tunnel at Wolf Creek
